Year 9 and 10 Trentham Academy students have completed a gruelling weekend of challenges whilst working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award. 26 Bronze students in year 9 and 7 Silver award students completed their practice expedition weekend with flying colours.
The Bronze Group had to carry their full backpack and tents from Ilam Hall to Hulme End on day one and then Hulme End to Longnor on Day two. The Silver Group camped at Hulme End on Friday night and then completed a circular walk on the Saturday back to the Campsite. They then walked from Hulme End to Longnor on Sunday. They all did really well, demonstrating skills such as cooking their own food, map reading, navigation, orienting their compasses to make sure they were on the right track and walking for at least 14 hours.
Everyone did amazingly well and are looking forward to the qualifying expedition at the end of June. In addition to the expeditions, they also complete a volunteering, skills and physical section of between 3 and 6 months in order to achieve the full award.
