I decided to be a governor because I am passionate about a community’s local high school. Don’t get me wrong; of course it matters that my eldest has joined the current Year 7 cohort and my youngest will be joining Year 7 next year; but that just adds more personal reasons for why I want to be involved.
As an honorary ‘clay-head’, I have been living in Trentham for the past twenty years and I have been in teaching itself for twenty-two years. My current role is Senior Assistant Headteacher taking the lead on pupil behaviour and welfare and the Designated Safeguarding Lead for an 11-19 Catholic College in Cannock. During my time as a member of the senior leadership team I have also held the responsibility for both standards and data within the college. I feel that this gives me an excellent overview and skills-base to join the governing body at Trentham Academy being both experienced and knowledgeable on both the pastoral and the academic side of secondary education.
During my time in professional roles I have been a member of various governor sub-committees regularly reporting to the governing body and being held to account for my actions. This has afforded me the opportunity to both ask and answer the difficult questions that a governing body should be asking of the Headteacher and his team.
Being from the south originally, naturally I’ve been a massive Manchester United fan (sorry!) for the past forty years! I do love listening to music, particularly live; but I am of that age where there are clearly some great bands around at the moment, but you just can’t beat the 80s!
I would like to think that I will bring a personal touch – living in the community with children at the school; the professional touch – having been in the job for twenty-two years and counting; and also the humorous touch so that we can continue Trentham Academy’s rightful place in the heart of our community!
